| Another fine lineup in the KNO circle of music! A
couple of dear friends, and superb singers/songwriters, who perform together and
individually around town, to appreciative audiences ... and a spiritual sister from the
Northeast, who inspires seekers of wisdom and truth wherever she goes! Susan Shann has
only been in Nashville for a few years, but has already developed a folowing with her
sweet, clear vocals and thoughtful songs (as well as with her excellent leadership as
Choral Director at the Nashville Center for Spiritual Living). Her husband and partner,
Gary Gullbergh, has run a similar course, adding tasty guitar grooves on co-writes with
Susan and in his own creations. A perfect completion of the round is provided by Laura
Berman, in town on one of her regular perfomingtours around the Southeast, accompanied by
her own partner, Craig Benelli. Once again, Kathy's Night Off continues to raise the bar
for Nashville music events, and this will be no exception. As always, the best way
to find out is to come out, and see and hear for yourself! |
| A native of Northern New
Jersey, and the youngest of five siblings, Susan Shann first picked up
the guitar in her late teens. Influenced by the creative and diverse music of the times,
she began composing her own songs, developing a sound which combines elements of pop, rock
and folk, but is still uniquely her own. Susan was a regular feature in Jersey clubs and
coffeehouses for many years, performing everything from jazz standards to rock, blues and
originals. Her passion for writing eventually culminated in the 1999 independent release, In
the Summertime, a collection of 12 skillfully crafted songs that show both
thematic range and musical versatility. As a music educator, Susan taught for several
years in the New Jersey school system before deciding to follow her first love,
songwriting, to Nashville, TN. Since moving to Nashville in 2003, Susan has continued to
write and perform regularly, becoming a respected member of the music community, as well
as director of the choir for the Nashville Center for Spiritual Living
(formerly Religious Science of Nashville).
As a performer, she had the honor of being invited as half of a duo with partner Gary
Gullbergh for the annual 2005 Tin Pan South festivities, and her songs have
recently been gaining the interest and attention of several prominent publishers. A new
collection of songs is expected to be released by April 2007. |
Gary
Gullbergh is a long-time veteran of the North Jersey / New
York club scene. Known most notably as a dynamic solo performer, he is also credited with
having been the lead vocalist and driving creative force behind the popular North Jersey
"swinging soul" band, Slide Home. Currently residing in
Nashville, Gary recently completed a long-awaited CD, Crossing the Line, which
has been met with rave reviews from critics and fans alike for its cover-to cover
creativity and style.
Gary is also the proud father of three grown boys. |
In 2002,
singer/songwriter Laura Berman released her first CD, Love
Will. Laura received critical acclaim from her debut, including an honorable
mention in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for the opening
track, "Grace in Me". Laura supported her CD by
performing in numerous clubs and spiritual centers throughout the United States and was
chosen as one of the emerging artists at the 2004 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. During
this time, Laura was also a featured singer in the film and soundtrack of
the Warner Brothers release, Cliffords Really Big Movie,
which starred John Ritter as the voice of Clifford.
Now Laura has released her follow up project, Laura Berman, a
self-titled acoustic CD that showcases her vocal, piano and songwriting talents. She
describes her new release as "a pop collection of modern and relevant
inspirational songs".
Laura will be touring in 2006 and 2007 in support of the new CD. |
